I have a question. I have looked at the offspring of the 1370 and have a theory/quetion. Since (i think) all the 1370 offspring have good color( and the 712 Kuhn and 845 bobier have proubably little effect to giving them color)
Were does the color come from. The 846 Calai. OH crap it's kind a late and i am pretty tired. I'll just update this tomorrow. Sorry if i got your hopes up.

The 1260 has been known to produce some fairly pretty orange fruit, most likely the 801.5 Stelts in it's background.
BUT, some seed that you think might go orange, can go quite ugly, and vice-versa.

Ya my mom thought I was going to be cute, but it turns out im quight ugly! But my brother is cute and same genetics... Hes tall and skinny and im short and fat. Genetics are never certain. Hey, I wonder what the mail man looked like 30 yrs ago? Maybe I was open pollinated and someone labeled me wrong?!!!!

Let me restate the question :I have a question. I have looked at the offspring of the 1370 and have a theory/quetion. Since (i think) all the 1370 offspring have good color( and the 712 Kuhn and 845 bobier have proubably little effect to giving them color)
Were does the color come from. The 846 Calai is the most likely the seed that adds the color.
Now lets say the 846 adds the color to the 1370. Would color be a genetic marker for the dominat genes of the 846? Lets say it is. Would this also mean that other dominat genes of the 846 would be expressed too.

I'll try to formulate this question better later.
Thanks

Not necessarily. Expression of one dominant quality does not guarantee expression of another, of which there can be many.

AJG, here's the way I see it. The 845 could contribute since it is 25% 567.5 Mombert 92.

845 Bobier 00 (935 Lloyd 97 x 865 Mettler 98)
865 Mettler 98 (946.5 Geerts 96 x 567.5 Mombert 92)

846 Calai 99 (801.5 Stelts 97 x 876.5 Lloyd 96)
The 801.5 is roughly 50% 567.5 Mombert 92, so that would mean the 846 is roughly 25% 567.5 Mombert 92.

The 567.5 is known to be a big contributer of orange, so put the 2 together & roughly a 25% chance of orange???

It seems to me, that the genes that influence color, just lined up in a combination favorable for orange color expression. As Ron states, the color genes are in the lineage. If that cross (1260 Weir X 712 Kuhn) were made a hundred times over, maybe Jerry Rose's cross(1370) would be the best orange color producer of the bunch. Maybe some of the crosses, would be quite pale. It makes individual crosses so interesting. Kind of like rolling the dice, and see what happens. We can make educated guesses of traits that will be expressed, but the element of surprise is still there. Kind of gives incentive to grow your own crosses, and see if a superior trait is expressed.

Just a small contribution here from me as i have first had experience of the 567.5 orange colour traits. My 1996 662 was grown on a Zehr 968 and pollinated with 567.5 males. Out of 375 seeds from the 662, i know of 4 offspring and all followed the cream colour trait within the 968. It would have obviously have been neccessary to have grown all of the Seeds from the 662 and had the offsprings known colour to have found out what, if any percentage would have produced orange offspring. Thankfully there will be several growers in the USA growing my 662 next year and i am looking forward to seeing the results for not just the % over chart that the 662 Seeds have been known for but also any of the orange colour traits that may be in these Seeds. Just my pennies worth to this thread.

You do sort of look like a former mailman but I am sure that is a coincidence

There were some questions here before if the original 1260 Weir was nice orange or not. Some people said it looked like a squash. When it was shown in Germany the impression was "pale white"

I had 2 crosses this year (x 1236 Eaton), on the 1260 and with the 1260 as a pollinator. Both results looked pretty nice and orange.
Element of surprise like Doug said, but it might still be a good idea to look for a seed like the 1370 Rose because certain seeds keep certain traits IMHO.
