I am looking for pumpkin scales for a new weighoff site. Starting a new group of growers and don't have a lot of money. Any ideas?

Couple of ideas, if you have some money and the time to look, try to get a used one. They are out there, you just need to be sure of what you are getting. We ( our club ) saved a bundle by purchasing a used platform scale for $1200, regular $4000. The guy even came out and fixed a faulty cable after the purchase. Another option is to borrow one if you can until you are in a position to get a good one. The Dill's generously let us use their scale for our 1st weigh off, good luck.

you might also consider renting one. check to see if there are any scale companys in your area.

We rent, and I almost think we managed to swing a deal to get a reduced rate by putting up a banner for the scale company, etc.

Go to your local fertilizer dealer, cannery, etc., and see if they have a contact for a scale company which provides or certifies scales, that should get you rolling. Once you get those contacts, telling them what you're looking to weigh should get the laughter going and hopefully lead to a good deal on a scale rental or donated/partially donated rental for the day.

The scale company has always let us use one for the day as long as they can put up a advertising sign.

If used or rented, be sure to contact (in advance) your local Department of Weights/Measurments to come out and certify your scale. No charge here in KY!! But to be official, it has to have a cert sticker!! Peace, Wayne
