Hey PG,

There's substitutes for Mill Fabric. Some growers use landscape fabric; you can also use a couple layers of heavy shade cloth on top of a 4' X 4' sheet of plywood. At the end of the day, as long as water can get down through it and the critters can't chew from up underneath the pumpkin you will be good.

Even the nylon material for outdoor patio furniture will work.
