There will be a couple, of warm spells...a day or two here and there, in December. Go get another load, of leaves and store them, for your mulching needs next year.

If you have the supply make one load manure and mix it in as you off load the leaves. Even in the coldest of winter some breakdown will continue, in your piles.

You may continue the coffee grounds additions spread, on top, of the fall preps or mixed into the leaves or compost.

As long as the Northeast does not completely freeze up or get heavy snow cover you may add just about anything, to the compost pile. Anything you do now will be more ready, to be, of better value, to you, in the spring when you begin using it as a mulch or soil additive.

One step ahead of ya :-)

I got an 1/2 load of 2 year old cattle manure this afternoon from the farm I pass everday on the way home
and piled the load into the back corner of my yard, tossed the rest of maple tree leaves I couldnt use this past year into the pile, and covered it with 2 bags of spaghnum peatmoss and top soil then covered with a tarp with rocks at each corner, I'll use this pile in the spring and summer of 06 to burry my vines with. I'll also till about 1/2 of the pile into the patch ( planting areas) 2 weeks prior to putting my plants outdoors

Oh shoot!!! My weatherman lied again. Well OK then there will be a couple, of warmer days, in January or Februrary or March. Whenever was the key word. The guys who bring it in and store it use more of in proper application timing. The do it later guys just never seem, to have it when they need, to use it. The total usually could have been better compost if done earlier.
