If you don't have a truck or much money but want to produce ten yards of compost, here's an easy way. Collect several hundred pounds (or more) of coffee grounds (see thread below), then contact a local tree service to drop off a "dirty" chip load. Everybody wants the clean 100% wood chips, but a load with a lot of cut up branches with foliage will work better, and the tree service is always glad to be able to get rid of those loads. A typical chip truck will have between 9 and 14 yards. Make sure to provide room for a chipper truck to be able to maneuver and raise the box. Layer the chips and coffee grounds, then just leave it for several months. Or you can more actively manage the pile if you wish. Should be in shape to dig into soil by spring, or if not, makes an outstanding mulch.
