I finally found a good source for manure, but its mostly fresh manure, with the liquids removed from a dairy farm. Is it too late to add the fresh manure and be ready for the spring? I don't want to cause problems but I am having trouble finding anyone with a pile of composted manure. Where do you all find it?

If you add it ASAP to the ground it should be fine, considering tha you planting first of May. Thats four months of aging, plus spring rains will help dilute and cool it down. That's what I am doing. I will till my grounds in feburary and then again in march.

Take a corner of the patch and pile the manure about three ft high you want to creat a round pile(this is what I did a couple yrs ago.) you get about a foot and a half more of growing space, and next fall you already havve the manure. It worked great for me. DOWN SIDE is that water can just sit there and creat a swamp.

You need to travel some back roads. The more modern, more prosperous farms, especially the larger ones will have so much manure they will either be using a liquid system or spreading on a regu;ar basis. There are always some old barns on some back roads that have an old manure pile around back. Keep your eyes peeled and you will strik gold. I found a pile like this three years ago. It was 10 years old. The stuff was totally black. I put it on 4" thick that year. I raised my OM from 4% to 8% in one season

yep--- good suggestion--the the more its broke down the faster and the easyer the up take --that why if you can--keep a pile ready a year a head or time--get the fresh now use it in 2008

If you really have to have it this year, get composting. You will have to actively manage it, but can be done in 4 months. Mix it with plenty of leaves (moist like a sponge and all that jazz). Get a thermometer and get er done!
