I have recently put together a new pumpkin bed.
See http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=59685
My soil analysis is pretty good except that the Sulphur level is relatively high at 142ppm and the soil is slightly more alkaline than I had hoped. Everything else is pretty much where I want it. There does not appear to be a significant level of free lime.
1. Presumably this sulphur level of 142ppm will include both elemental sulphur and sulphur in the form of Sulphates etc. Is that correct? I don't think there is any way of telling the difference between the two. Is that right?
2. I was planning to add a bit more elemental sulphur powder to bring the pH to 7.0 if pos. Is this a good idea?
3. Is Sulphur of 142ppm or higher a problem?
Cheers,
Malc

We'll take the blame Malc.........we've been butchering language for years.......lol
Normally, sulfur(sulphur) is added to correct high ph levels. I'm betting Craig Lembke responds shortly.

U didnt say what your ph is. Its not going to kill you to grow in the low 7's... To many mistakes are made trying to micro manage... If you just put it together, it will correct its self with a bit of time and OM. Add few bales of spagnun peat moss.

I agree with the peat moss suggestion. I would still add in the low number organic fertilizers, some kind of remineralization like Ironite or Azomite, kelp meal and molasses to get the biology fired up.
Here on the home front I use Agro K Symbex and Molasses to get things cooking early along with the above.

Stop adding sulfur and use peat moss
