I have been battling high potassium for awhile now. I keep trying to figure out what I did to get it so high. My potassium rates are between 2000-3000 ppm every year. I didnt add any manure this year thinking it might come down- nope it went up more. To make it more confusing, I added space for 1 more pumpkin at the end of the patch. Plowed it up in the fall and added nothing. Potassium in that patch was 3376ppm. It must be in the soil already. Does anybody have any ideas why it is so high? Should I find a new place to grow? Thank you for any comments! Take care! Kevin

Kevin, we have very high Phos here. Low K. Some soils are just high in certain things. Unfortunately we here are also very high in MG which I believe hurts our CA uptake.
Just curious what's your base sat at?

HOw long have you been at that house Kevin? Could it have been a farmers field in the past?

I have been here about 12 years. It was on old farm place. No one has lived here for at least 15 years before I moved here. Thanks! Maybe I wont be planting this year anyway, it wont quit snowing here. 9 inches and still snowing

Pumpkins LIKE potassium. Don't lose sleep over a good thing. Just keep an eye on the other elements by semi annual tissue testing.

yep on high K soils--a lot of the soil tests i do for growers in the west and mid west are just plan high in K-- My Suggestion is to add things like compost and other things that are low in K --and you will be thinnig the pot of so called salty soup if you added water---same with the soil --but watch that it also doesnt change you PH or other things---->>AND ITS ALL IN THE NAME OF GROWING -> GP
