Why do some growers put Corn Meal in there soil? Would it be good to put Corn meal on my soil? The patch is fairly new.

Just go to a farm feed store and buy it in 100lb bags. You don't need to buy horticultural grade. Corn meal is corn meal. Only thing about corn meal is, it will raise your Phosphorus. So if you use it and next year your soil test comes back with a high amount of Phosphorus it's from the corn meal.

Then I guess I cannot use cornmeal because my phosporus is on the high side already.

High phosophorous content can inhibit mycorrhizal growth. Be careful with it.

in order to raise P with cornmeal you would have to layer it in inches on the soil,,,I think we are talking a dusting here to provide the anti-fungal properties and some food for the worms

Would manure, and leaves in the fall lower my phosphorus? The soil test is from last fall before I added anything.

Yes manure and leaves will both raise your Phos. Corn meal is less than 0.5% Phos. Good chances you manure was higher than corn meal. My guess is you put hundreds of pounds of manure in. Manure is for sure far higher in available P than Corn meal.

Manure wont lower it Nic, it contains P. In the fall a great amount wil gone and used by your plants.
