I am building my soil up at the moment and wondering when would be the best time to test the soil? Our season does not start until september/October down here therefor have time to amend. currently have added manure/compost mix and gypsum for the clay. will be adding 6 inches of sandy loam to raise and help with drainage. The plan is to finish building the soil and grow a cover crop over winter. should I test early spring or before?

Test before...so you know what to add....test after the crop to see what was used...if you get into a before after test pattern you be good in a couple of years. GrowEmBig! Chuck

That sounds like a good plan, makes sense to know whats going on with the soil before blindly adding things I may not need or want. Thanks for your help
