Would there be a benefit to adding mycorrhizae as a soil prep now to my resting patch to get it ready for next year? My thought was to add some to the "red zone" now and plant rye grass so the myco has roots to colonize on. Is this just a waste of money because the myco will be dead by next spring when I plant?

titanic, if yer rye grass grows over the winter (winter rye), then as I understand it...you will have an established colony of mychorrhizae, already in the patch, when you cut down the rye, and till next spring. Now comes the conundrum??? How much of that colony will survive till the pumpkin roots reach out that far? Maybe this is related to yer "red zone" (not sure what that means)? As I understand it...myco will survive only if living roots are present!! Hope this helps, and bigger hopes that some knows for sure!!! Peace, Wayne
