What is the minimum spacing betwen giant pumpkins? I'm thinking about planting my pumpkins in a row and growing the plants perpedicular to the row in alternating directions. This will allow me to add additional ammendments easily and consistently to the stump area, as well as build up that area out of my clay soil. I know some growers grow pumpkins "back to back" with stumps spaced at 20 ft. Will there be too much competition between plants with stumps at 15ft or even 12 ft? at 12 ft spacing, each plant will still have 22+ft width of growing area and can grow out to whatever length is desired (or available).

I would stick with 20 otherwise it gets to be a mess
