Hi everyone. I was wondering if you could add peat moss in the spring. Does it have to decompose in the soil before the organic material in the peat is usable by the plant? Also can you put peat into your compost(along with lime to balance off the ph) to result in a compost with a better water retaining capacity? Thank you!

ashton-yes-no-yes. Peat is a good soil structure builder.Prob. better to place in fall but should be okay in spring.

I have a giant bale of peat next to my compost Ash,,,,, I add it every now and again to keep the moisture down in the compost.

Helps make a nice compost for the following year:)
