2014 will be my first year for seriously growing giant pumpkins. In an effort to do it right I'm preparing my soil now. I bought Don Langevin's first two books about a month ago and thought I saw that he recommended 6 inches of manure mixed with leaves and till down in the fall. Went I went to double check tonight I couldn't find it. Can anyone tell me if that sounds like a good plan?

I'm not sure of the rate, even though I think around 10-20% total is a good starting point.Just watch out for chicken and pig manures. They can be "hot" and too much is not good for the plants, so a little goes a long way. I use either cow or horse ( sometimes horse manure has more weed seeds in it). Hope this helped a little.
