I've got a second patch at a farm 2 miles away. The soil test for nitrogen, potassium, phospherous, and sulfur came back quite good. The organic matter is 3.9 %, EC at 0.89, but my ph is at 8.5 (I only did the cheapo test so no micros) In town my patch is at 7.6, which is on town water. The farm uses water from the irrigation canals. Would this make a difference and how worried should I be with an 8.5? If so, what could I add to bring it down?

8.5 is way too high. My town water is 8.4 and I have worked hard all season long to keep it under control. optimum ph level is generally 6.5 to 7.2. Lime is used to lower PH and Aluminum Sulphate can also be used to correct such a problem quickly.

I should mention that after a really cold and crappy spring, 2 really bad hail storms, and some wicked winds, I managed on a 568 Perez get 1 300 lb on a main vine (set late July), and two 180 lb pumpkins (both set mid-August) on secondaries that I coulnd't ever cut off.

Lime will not I repeat LIME WILL NOT LOWER PH...Lime is a Base meaning it has a PH on the Alkaline side. Like 11....Adding lime to a Alkaline Soil will make it more Alkaline.

Untreated Peat (Ph 3 to 4) will bring down the Ph and will also add valuable OM to your soil.
Add at least 10 cubic meters per 100 square meters.

to lower the ph one unit --use sulfur1/2# to 100 sq ft or aluminum sulphate 2 1/2 #to 100 sq ft or iron sulphate 3 # also to 100 sq ft craig
