Grandpa's patch

White Bear Lake, Minnesota

My soil test report said to apply 15-0-40 to my garden. When I went to the landscape - garden center to find fertilizer with these kinds of numbers, the closest thing was lawn fertilizer. Long story short, they said it is against the law to sell this type of fertilizer, to put on a vegatable garden. Something about the carrier in the fert. Has anyone used lawn fertilizer on their AG's?

That analysis is Potassium Nitrate which can be used to make a bomb since it's a snappy good oxidizer. Of course you'd need to mix it with other stuff, but.......

It can still be purchased. I just sold myself a bag. But it is regulated today. If you have an ag co-op nearby then they can get it for you. You'll need to make a disclosure statement on a new government form for Homeland Security indicating where, why & how you intend to use it.

Just don't write down anything about terrorism & you should be OK.

Thanks Steve
If thats what it takes to revive my patch!! LOL I just unloaded 10 big bales of peat and 10 bags of gypsum. I'm now on my way to get a trailer, to haul Bison manure tomorrow. My friends at the Silver Bison Ranch says I can have all I want. I'm helping with their round-up on the 28th and 29th.

Makes you feel safe knowing how easy it is to get. Of course, I'm sure the dept of homeland security has a dossier on me now.

Well I suppose the fine milling is worth something. But it isn't worth anywhere near $1.71/lb. That's obscene.
