I was wondering if anybody knew how those leaf vacuum trucks work? The ones that go down the streets and suck up all the leaves people rake out. They don't come out as far as my place, but they do go through a neighborhood near here. I was considering asking the driver if he would be so kind as to dump the load right onto the garden. It would only be a 2-3 minute drive for him. Maybe even a $20 would help persuade him. I'm primarily wondering how they empty, and what kind of junk I might end up with. Thanks for any info.

Our city collects leaves but them composts them and uses them in city parks, gardens, recreations centres etc...

I go to a park close to my house and wait till they rake and blow them into a huge pile. I usually have a few days to get as many as I want before the removal truck comes.

Big Sign " Wanted Leaves" works here..Have to tell them to stop at one point though. Use of your trailer is a plus also or as kyle says you pick up.

A sign won't work here. I live on a dead end street in the country. Actually it's more like a dirt road, but all the neighbors (both of them) are giving me their leaves. But I need MORE! Our town doesn't compost anything, I think they go to the dump. What a waste! Anyway, I'll let you know what I find out.

Does it matter if the trees (leaves) have been sprayed with pesticides or anything like that, or is this not a consideration at all?

James, we have very strict pesticide rules here in Canada and anything used now is short lived and breaks down quickly. Ask the city what (if anything) they spray on trees and bushes. They use nothing here on the North Shore so its not a concern for me.
