I've seen recommended ratios of Ca, Mg, and K listed as Ca/Mg=7/1, Ca/K=15/1, Mg/K=2/1. I've wondered how these values were arrived at. This url http://www.cropsoil.uga.edu/turf/Interpretation/interpretation.html
leads me to believe we should use meq/100g relative to cec rather than ppm or lb/a. Am I right? The method used makes a huge difference. Based on my soil sample for example if I use % cation saturation I get Ca/K=23/1. But if I use lb/a I get Ca/K=12/1. The paper at the above url is a little over my head. Did I come close to interpreting it correctly?

For years I followed my training & virtually ignored Albrecht. So many recently published pumpkin books mentioned the ratios again, I thought I had missed something & started to play the ratios again. But I've now soil tested enough hitters patches that I'm back to thinking Albrecht had soil between the ears. LOL

In other words, I agree with your observations that from 3:1 - 13:1 & every point in between can toss a record fruit as long as all the minimum needs have been met.

I still *try* to color inside the lines. But I can't always justify the need when I review some of the soil tests I've seen & the weights they've produced.
