Last year my plants experienced a lot of leaf burn. This year I'm considering using Fertrell Surround WP as an alternative to shading or misting. I could shade my plants if I had to but misting is not a practical option for me. Has anyone tried it?

Sure Mark. Tried. Misting is still far better for me. If I were doing it over(which I actually will be doing in another two years) I would definitely go with the shade cloth as my primary and misters in case of extreme heat. BF

at least shade them, and if pos. use a box fan just a cheapy from any where, you can if you have time during the heat of the day just wet leafs, and turn the fan on. or my last choice is just cover with a white cotton thift store sheet. Rog

I found that once the leaves were mature, I had no burn problems. So i would just shade the vine end till the leaves were mature and kept moving the shade as the vine grew. Used a white sheet. Of cource its alot of work.

Smoky, I had the same experience, the mature leaves tolerated the heat reasonably well although they were wilted for about 6 hours every day.

Snake, is the reason the surround did not work because the new growth is what is affected by the heat the most? After giving it some thought it would seem that in order to keep new growth protected you would have to spray daily, or maybe even twice a day to keep the edges of the young growing leaves from burning since this new growth would have no surround on it.
I have no references to back me up on this but it would seem that photosynthesis is at best greatly reduced, and at worst is not taking place at all while the leaves are wilted during the heat of the day. Did you use surround on the mature leaves as well as the new leaves? If so, did you notice any reduction in wilting?
I hate the thought of having to cover my plants. But in the absence of misting and if surround will not work there doesn't appear to be any other option.

Mark, I had no wilting on the mature leaves, watered every other day as needed, including all burried vines and main root. I do live in a valley, so by 5-6pm the sun is gone from my patch. I would think misting would be best but its not possible for me, so shade has to be it for me.
