Trying to get some opinions on this subject. Seems like we must deal with higher heat and humidity in the south...do these conditions put us at a disadvantage in regards to burying vines?

I have had more luck when i bury vines.
the main reason i bury vines help fight off the svb they seem to dive bomb my patch real hard in May & June.

Because of rain ,and humidity i stopped burying Main vines, and will bury some side vines at leaf nodes.
When i say bury i mean just enough to cover.
Advantages: offers some protection from vine borers, also promotes secondary root growth.
Disadvantages: Posiable early vine rot, wide open to insects (VINE BORERS)
I would add i'm useing a better insecticide, and fungicide this year. Rog

Thanks for your replies, really appreciate them. I am only considering vine burial for SVB protection. I assume that I would only receive "some protection" from them....is that correct? I have a feeling, regardless of how much vine burial I have, the borers will still find a home....

Any other advice to stave off the effects of high heat/humidity would be GREATLY appreciated.

i buried all mine to promote root growth. Seems alot easier for the plant to get water at each leaf than from only the main root. I found that when i dug up the plants at season end, that any vine still growing was ok, only secondaries without growth had rotted(only a few). Now we had a dry summer last year, so that in a wet year burrying them all may not work.
