Hi everyone! I am brand new to this forum and brand new to the pumpkin growing business. I am located in the piedmont section of NC and I am planting a small amount of pumpkins this year (approx.2-2 1/2 acres). I just want to see what they will do in my soil before I jump to a larger crop. I would appreciate any suggestions, type of seeds, time to plant, etc., plus I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions the further I get into this. Thanks for your help, Buck.

Well 1st before a seed hits the soil have the pumpkins sold or a plan to sell them. You are going to need to read alot. If you think you can just throw seeds in the ground and come back in the fall and reap your harvest. You are in for a rude awakening. You will need a herbicide, insecticide, and fungicide program. Several good websites out there. Google Commercial Pumpkin Growing. It will start you in the right direction.

Buck, get the " Pumpkin Production Guide" it has alot of good info on growing commercial pumpkins. We grow about 35-40 acres of field pumpkins here in the northwest mountains. Also check with your extension agent about info they may have for you. Email me at carlton@skybest.com if I can help
