will it hurt the vines to bury them in the same dirt that the plant is planted in or do i need to bury them in something else or in the south just not worry about it

HI Lee,
I bury mine with the same dirt as the patch. I put a shovel of dirt over them at each leaf node. This is where the roots come out. Then they can get water and nutrients all over the plant instead of just where you planted the seed. It also keeps the vines from getting blow away when it is windy.

Good luck,

Bury the nodes (where the leaves come out) pretty early. The vine will try to grow one set of new roots down into the ground, and another set will sprout out of the top of the vine.

Your soil drains so well you hopefully won't have this problem, but watch out for rot if you're burying the whole vine. I'll probably just use mulch over most of the vine, except at the leaf nodes where I'll bury using good soil.
