now this is my opinion but i think that the ga growers should come together at some point in time and put together a weigh off in ga i have rod my pumpkin around for a few days and people are amazed at the size of my pumpkin they ask is it real and i have to say yes and laugh but this goes to show that people are not aware of giant pumpkin growing in ga if our desire is to get others into the sport then we need this people in ga just cant see in there minds how something can grow so big plus it would do all the ga growers good to come together for this and give all the ga growers somthing to look forward to each year what is your thought on this

Or broke....I agree with you....you Ga. folks have enough #'s to put together a weigh-off. Us Ky. folks have finally put it together, thanks to Capt. Hook. We have an official GPC weigh-off in Ky. this year. Last Sat. in Sept. !!! Somerset, Ky. Might be close enough for some of the southern growers to attend!!! Email me at wsmpeace@aol.com for details. Peace, Wayne

I can vouch that even very liberal doses of the Bayer product for trees and shrubs (with 1.47% Imidacloprid) does not eliminate SVB. Maybe it slows them down, but it sure didn't kill all of mine.

If there was a Georgia weigh off, I'd have to bring Fluffy the neighborhood deer - most of my pumpkin is in her belly. It was my first experience with deer, and it wasn't pretty. Rats!

I would be interested in a weigh-off as well. We could do it somewhere in Central GA, maybe Macon. This is my first attempt but I already know I will be doing it year after year.

Hey guys how's it growin? (Ha I kill Me!) Well I don't have a winner this year. I broke my leg and my punkin is kind of down a hill. Unfortunately the wife does not share my enthusiasm. Actually she hates it. My cucumber and cantaloupe count suffered terribly and those are her favorites. Next year- far away from the other vines! Anyway, let's get a GA group together. Any takers?

I'm interested.
I'll be growing this year at least.
Might be nice to have a georgia growing website or association to standardize when people will plant, where to conduct a weigh-off and to discuss problems specific to this area.
A friend of mine will also be growing so that makes two of us at least in Tucker, just outside Atlanta.
Best regards to all.

Michel - that would be me. Feel free to shoot me an email anytime (andyw1407@gmail.com)

My first bit of advice for you guys would be to get some kind of group formed. It does not have to be anything official, simply meeting for beers once or twice per year to keep in touch goes a long way to keeping growers together.

Hey Michel, Andy, there has been a core of Deep South growers meeting annually for many years now and have just recently been meeting along with the growers from North Carolina and beyond. This is the Southern Growers meeting that Sam is speeking of in the most recent post here. A great group of dedicated growers. Welcome back to the South Michel. BF

KMike, hope you guys in Ga. get a group and a weighoff going!!! If you don't, I would suggest the 2nd annual KGPG weighoff in Nancy, Kentucky!!!(GPC site) Several serious growers in Ga., including Jason D. (Ga. state record...weighed in Nancy, KY. last year)!!!. Anything us KY. guys can do to help, let us know!!! Peace, Wayne
PS...ally, how are ya???
