I'm new here, just joined today. I'm located in Paulding County in the great state of Georgia. I grow pumpkins just for fun, mostly for my kids. They love the whole process and watching it grow. I didn't have much luck last year but 2 years ago had great luck. I'm looking for any advice or tips so that I may do well this year. Or is it even worth trying due to the drought? Thanks! Jess

Hi Jess im located in North Georgia and have been growing pumpkins for a while. Last year was my first attempt at growing for competition and growing the Atlantic Giants. The drought makes it tough but with lots of effort "you can do it". Welcome aboard and hopefully well have a Georgia chat soon im not sure how to go about it but well make it happen. Theres lots of info on this site. The new growers forums a great place to start and anything I can help with just let me know. Jason D in Georgia

Hi Jess, I am Doug Adams from Carrollton, Georgia. Jason is being very modest grower. He tore up the old Ga. record last year which I was blessed with for several years. My record was 698 lbs. and Jason's new record is 789 lbs. Jason also had several other big ones last season. My 13 year old son grew 580.5 pounder last season and won the Ga. 4 h contest. If you have a good water source you can grow in the drought. Will be glad to help anyway I can. Where do you live in Paulding county? Call sometime if you like or email if you like. onedude@bellsouth.net Take Care, Doug Adams Carrollton, Ga. 770-832-8890 John 3:16

Jess definetly get up with Doug. Hell take time out to talk to ya and hes probally the best grower in Georgia. He better watch out for his boy this year..lol. Hey Doug we gotta get a Georgia chat going sometime soon. My internet connection at the house works better so Id love to take part. Good luck to all and Jess get ready because this is a very addicting hobby. Everynight I take notes and on the weekend try to work in my patch. Its fun but very stressful at times but well worth it. Good luck again

YAY I found my way back here haha You guys talking about the 500+ pound pumpkins are scaring me, I'll be glad to just grow a big one haha How do you move those? yikes!
I've got another obsession to go with the pumpkins - gourds & cotton! I want to try to grow cotton in the kids garden. I think they'll find that interesting (if it works)....and everyone likes gourds right? Do you think we'll be able to water this summer?
One thing I learned from last summer is I need more room LOL My pumpkins ended up with powdery mildew (?) late in the season. I also think I started them way too soon.

Hi everyone! I'm new to Georgia but not that new to giant pumpkin growing. I was doing pretty good in Germany, but this is a whole new ball game over here and I feel pretty humble with all the critters and diseases and drought. I have a 1092 Martin for one plant and hopefull will get a few more seeds to plant up to 4 plants with a partner who is absolutely new to pumpkin growing. I just hope we'll get some nice looking pumpkins a few hundred pounds. He'll be very surprised.
I look forward to hearing about the problems you've faced in the past and how to overcome them. If 800lbs. is possible here, then maybe a thousand is, as well. I'll be happy with much less than that! (grin) Best regards, Michel

Jason, watch out for that fella from Nicholls, if the record can be beaten by sheer dedication Lee's gonna do it, even if he does live virtually on the equator.
Where in Atlanta are you, Michael? I live in Duluth.
The local Lowe's has an entire rack of seeds, and it's completely full of Dill's Atlantic Giant see packets. I'll have to go back and see if they've actually sold any down here.
