plants are little behind here in my part of the world except the 1566 which seems to be a monster of a plant.. with the hot temps. setting in this week wil not take long for the other plants to catch up..should be pollinating on time.

I live near Asheville, NC and the lack of rain has really hurt.
It contributed to my transplanted plants dying I think (back in mid May. I think bugs got the surviving plants.
I have some seeds coming up and I also have Big Max seeds in the ground.

Its beens so hot here, but the plants are really growing. No pumpkins yet. Isit normal for the plant leaves to flag during this hot weather. Ive been gone all weekend and only 2 of the 4 plants have flagged leaves. Croley

some plants seem to handle the hot weather better than others. last year the 1225 Pukos took the heat in full stride. .while some of my oter plants didnt care much for the heat.
this year the 1470 Wallace & 1566 Rodonis seem to love the heat.. keeping the first 4 feet of the main vine under shade cloth to keep the tips from burning-so far -so good.
maybe its the Wallace & Pukos combo with the special touch from Bill Rodonis thats keeping my plants nice and cool in this record breaking heat wave.

Yes, some wilting during the heat of the day is normal. Don't let the plants get too dry though.
After the first SVB outbreak, my back yard resembles a chemical dump this evening. But the plant looks good so far.

Haven't seen any SVB's yet, but sounds like i'm surrounded. Better get ready. Finally got some rain here which broke the heat. Had hail too which was good :(

Hello! I am a first time grower here in Dunwoody GA! My cousin gave me seeds from his winning pumkin in WV. I have three plants going and having different success with each. My best vine has a pumpkin with a 6ft. Circ. but the vine and leave were heavily damaged by squash vine boreres... I guess that is SVB. I dug as many of them out as I could find, and sprayed the heck out of the plant tonight. Wish me luck! The other two vines are small, one lost its stump to svb's and only this week developed any secondary vines. It has two pumkins the size of soft balls. My third plant has a 2.5 circ. plant on it. It is just difficult to water with the watering ban on in Dekalb county. My hubby has set up multiple rain barrels and we catch condensation off the AC. I would be interested in hearing from other local growers for advice and how their plants are doing.

DMM,
The Georgia watering restrictions do not and never have applied to vegetable gardens. The AJC doesn't advertise that fact much, but it's true. Your conscience is the only issue with watering your pumpkin. That and the fact that legally, I think you might have to eat the fruit when it's all said and done... just kidding.
It's good to see some other urban Atlanta growers taking up the obsession!

Jhatcher, Are you in Atlanta too? I am in north Dekalb.
My best pumpkin got to 175lbs and then the it rotted on the bottom. Cut it off a week ago. I have three pumpkins left all less than a month old and not growing very quickly and all about 3ft cir. How are your plants holding up to the heat and drought? HOw long have you been growing pumpkins in GA?
