The Southeastern States must recognize one fact. No world record pumpkin will ever be grown in the Southeastern states.
Sam Lovelace is trying to organize a SE growers group, I have joined and would encourage other SE growers to join.
As an old guy who spent several thousand dollars trying to get a SE growers group going and organizing weigh offs I speak from experience.
Either unite or perish!

More info please, I'm interested and I am sure a few other Virginia growers here would be also. We are in the beginning stages of forming the Virginia Giant Vegetable Growers Association and I think it's a great idea for us all to band together.

Sam is doing a great job. I had the pleasure of entering the Elkin, NC weighoff in 2006 and I can say it was a joy to meet their local growers. Sam and Jim Doll showed us the finest in southern hospitality too.

bob,,dont get me wrong,,i see the need to unite,,but to state that theres never gonna be a world record here,,basicly stating,,you can try, but never succeed, seems a bit to much. It was stated that a 1000 lbser wouldent happen, untill sam grew a 1178. And under the right circumstances, more then that is possible. I think believing,,,and then trying hard, brings you further then trying to be realistic, cause,,no one knows a plants limits,,and the weather can be against you...but sometimes plays along,,,,when it does,,,great things can happen.

Tina and Frank Cook:
No offense taken.
I wish you and yours the very best of Luck.
If someone in the SE USA grows a World record I will be the 1st to say congratulations and retract my statement. Until then keep trying.
My intented point was to encourage Southern growers to get behind one association rather than splinter into a bunch of local organizations.
I was at the Elkin NC weigh off and witnessed 1st hand Sams Southeastern USA record.
My only point is to support Sam Lovelace and his group.
My best to all: Bob Attaway

You do know the old Georgia record is going to be smashed this year? Not to usurp anybody's accomplishments, that's all I've got to say and I've probably said way too much already. A world record? Well of course not. We don't have the sunlight for that.
Hope you're doing well Tina, it's been a while - don't get heat stroke while you're growing them big!
