Winston Salem NC

I just started growing some field and Prizewinner pumpkins this year and seem to be hooked at this point. Are there alot of growers around here in North Carolina. I'm originally from the East Bend area and still go to the company I work fors shop there, but I live in Winston Salem now. Anybody close?

There a good number of growers in your area, Mater fact most NC growers are pretty close to Winston Salem. I suggest joining the NCGVG to get to know some people who could help you along the way.

Well we got one thing in common anyway my last name is Holder also. Makes the world seem smaller somehow. LOL. I will probibly have to take you up on some of the direction sometime and hopefully I will be able to myself help anyone who needs it. Do you know Sams email? I tried to email him through NCGVG's site but my email director sends it to Outlook and my computer is stupid and not letting me change it right now. Thanks Brad.

Thanks RogNC. I just got back from taking the nieces and nephews skating so now back to working on the patch for next season. I have got to get everying sorted out to I can send off a soil test also. Are you using the NC ag. deptments soil tests?

Yes Rick i use the NCDA&CS Division of soil testing.

It really depends on when the pumpkin is done growing. There is a weighoff in Elkin NC on Sept 27.

A fellow YAKIN county grower. I am from yadkin county also and still go there almost every day to go to the shop for work. Used to live off of Hennings Rd. I grew some field and prizewinners this year and I can attest to both the fun and aggrivation factors as well. I have been working all weekend fixing the drainage and bringing in load after load of compost and horse manure. Takes alot to cover a 50x100 patch (lol).
