Hi, Lee. I will leave it up to you and Jason and Doug to grow the 1000 pounders. I did get to see Jason's pumpkins and I must admit it made me want to grow a big one. This is my second year and my goal is 400lbs - if the SVB's don't ruin me again.

Hey all, when are you putting your plants in the ground? I sure wish I could wait until after the SVB season.

I start my seeds last week in April then they go into the ground usually first week in May. We get Svbs here all they way until middle August. Merit and Bifenthrin in good doses keep them at bay.

Good morning! Just curious if I should be making seed choice based on weight (and "heaviness") alone or should I look for seed that have "proven" themselves in the hot, humid South (Winder, GA)?
This will be year two for me. I planted (AGRICHARDS1159) late last year and my pumpkin rotted on the vine just after reaching about 120. After all the blood, sweat, and tears last year I thought "I'm not doing that again", but here I am waking up early thinking about giant pumpkins. Any advice is appreciated.

Hey AK id plant a seed that does well in your region. Im planting one of my seeds this year because Its a really good cross and the plant held up great to heat and even lack of rain. The cross is 793 Vanhook * 1423 Wallace you are more then welcome to some seeds from it if intrested. It was heavier then taped and should do well for ya. Well if ya need anything just let me know.

Thanks Jason. I really appreciate the offer. I'll take you up on it if you have a few to spare. Send me an email (aparham@windstream.net) and we can work out the details (address, etc.) I'll certainly be glad to keep you posted on the progress.

This will be my first real solo year at growing an AG.I am worried about the heat as well. Most of my genetics are from 1689 Jutras 998 Pukos and 1502 wallace. Has anyone in the area tried them with any luck against all the hear and drought we have down here? I have a thread under the new growers forum "What to Plant..." with all of them listed but no help as to what might do well here yet.

How's everyone doing? I didn't get my plants in the ground until June 1st. We were going out of town and I was afraid they would burn up by the time we got back.

Has anyone heard from Doug? I think he lives near where we had the worst flooding this week. I sent him an e-mail yesterday but haven't heard back. Doug, hope you are doing well.
I had 20.5 inches of rain at my house between Friday and Tuesday but was spared any flooding.

Hi, I am doing fine. The floods didn't get us but it really messed up a bunch of people. I have been out of town since Thursday. I have been at a bladesmithing meeting in Blairsville, Ga. where Jason D. lives. I got to go by and meet him Thur. and see his giant pumpkin. It was very impressive. He did a great job. A really nice guy. Thanks for the concern, Doug
