I have two plants left. Have been fighting weeds, stink bugs, heat and humidity. Just got mill fabric under my 1248 Stealts pumpkin yesterday.

Tough going here in Virginia for just about everybody. Contimous days over 100 degrees in late June/early July and driest two months on record for the last 50 years. needless to say we ain't got much!

Hot West Tennessee

Not so good here , lost stump on biggest plant 2 weeks ago.
To hot to work out there so bugs and weeds are taking me over. Trying to just have something to show for all my work . Toughest year of my three for sure!

Well, it was a rough year but I still squeaked out a new pb at 325. To bad it didn't keep growing it was at day 32 when we picked it on July 24th. I had vine issues that caused the end not to mention foaming stump on nearly all of my plants. Had a lot of early aborts in June due to near 97-99 degree week which resulted in only one good pumpkin. All my plants are now dead so I'm ready for next year.

Out of 8 plants we only got 3 to pollinate one is growing slow the other two are slowing down now. we got sum problems with the stem going in to the pumpkins roting so I don't know if we will get any thing. we are hoping to try to keep them so we can break the state record.

I agree with you doug , I would take zone 6 any time. They cool at night to give everthing a break . We may be 99 days only 78-80 at night. But I'll keep on trying in my zone 7b anyway.

Wow, 87 degress, at 6:30 this a.m., and doug is pickin on KY. growers!!! LOL Sorta thinkin, Va is further north than KY. !!! LOL Best of luck to awl, in a HOT, Hot summer!!!
PS...5 years or so ago, on this site, I think I read several posts, that said..."You can't grow a pkn over 1K, that far south, it's too hot"!! Guessin, that SE growers have sorta knocked that one outta the park!!! Grow em BIG!!! Peace, Wayne

i give you folks all the credit in the world for wanting to participate in this crazy hobby of giant pumpkin growing.

to grow within the same time period as we do in the new england states you must battle high heat for very long periods of time.

we experienced a very hot, dry summer this season here in ri with many days in the ninties and a few got to 100, but nothing as steady as some of you.

my hats off to all of you for attempting to battle these type of growing conditions.

It has been an exciting first year for my daughter(Drumrunner78) and I(the old daddy). I am amazed we started all 8 seeds (late though it was) on the third attempt and kept 7 out of 8 plants alive till early August! The ones that servived had a simple defuser(plastic shade) over them til we got our summer rain. I think since june 1 we've had five days less than 90 degrees and about 1 1/2 inches of rain, but here in Bowling Green It's the humidity that will peal hidration out of everything! Yes, I have a GP at this time, it's not much but for our first year and doing everything wrong the first and second time we're pretty stoked! David

My garden didn't grow like usual but did have some vegtables . I got my pumpkin seeds out late plant all kinds in ground 15th of June and still look bad. Also have had sick turkeys.
