I’m planning on trying to grow in SC this year. I got some Dill’s Atlantic seeds from an online store, are these good for this region or are there better options?

Also, when is the best time to plant here in order to harvest a good size pumpkin around mid-October (The goal is a giant jack-o-lantern)? Should I plant as soon as the threat of frost is gone or wait a few weeks?

Thanks!

I would plant early April to avoid some if the summer heat and still have a viable plant come October. You will need to take extreme caution with the heat. I am growing my fist pumpkin SC. Have grown for many years in CT. New ball came down here. David

By giant I mean I would be happy with a couple 200 pounders, after browsing a bit it looks like that’s probably pretty small for y’all.

I’ll give it a try in April and plan to throw some shade over the pumpkins and see how it goes.

I grow in Southeast TN. I start the seeds indoors and get the plants in the ground no later than the 1st of May. Keep the plants cool with lots of water and shade and you can do alright. I can send you some seeds that will do better than what you can get at the store.
