I am not south of you southern , but I have the 940 Mombert you sent me in the patch. It has been up three days and almost as big as a weeks nc giant I planted in a different patch and has been up for a week. We have had a lot of rain and its warm for May. I do have a question though what breed of squash seed is that you sent me.

Appalachian Mountain weather is perfect lately...70-80 days, 50-55 nights, daily "heat storm" showers with about 1/4" rain, and good ol' dead animal compost for food.
Life is good in May, and June and July are lookin' great too!

Kyle,
The weather is pretty good so far.. rain is coming tomorrow..we think. just came from the garden. had to take a peek and see if my seeds were germinating. So...slowly..so very slowly I dug around one of my little darlings. Went down to the seed bottom, and no farther...then lightly...touched it from side to side..no more than 2 millimeters...ahhhh, felt the resistance...a root , a glorious root has started!! Then oh so carefully put the potting medium back in place. I started the seed by the direct method. first, I filed the seed to specs, then soaked for 6 hours in lukewarm water. Then placed the seed with the top of the seed about 1-1.25" below the surface of my "hill". Today looks like lots of sunshine with the temp hitting around 80 today. A little windy..so I will have to lightly spray the top of the hill.

Rain!! Rain!! Rain!! Sunday was a great rain day..Wow, it did wonders.. The tomato's and hot peppers drank it in. This morning I checked out the pumpkin hill, and the first seed is poking it's head out of the hill!! woo hoo.. This year, it is all direct seed planting, now, hope they point the right way without the need for 'training' The plan is to grow the vines from north to south. my hill(box within a box) is level, after they emerge, they will go downhill, fairly steep, (I am on a mountain) with the direct southern exposure in a wishbone formation. go baby Go!

The rain was good yesterday. Saw Noah float by, he waved! Some of the leaves got welded to the ground, but all is well now. it did a lot of good to the patch. Thinned down the hill from 4 of the mystery AG's to 2. Soon, will have to make the decison on the last 'mystery' AG. ahhh, the agony, left plant or right plant?? May leave both plants, if the 639 Dunn does not improve, very, very slow going for it. patience I tell myself, patience...but it is hard...I keep hearing about the vine lengths of others out there, and I feel like my garden needs viagra. ehhhh, at least the tomato plants are growing at an amazing rate. Be Thankfull...grrrrrrr.
