I go away for a weekend of catfish/crappie fishing, only to come back and find the SPGA is done. Well, I honestly don't know how I feel about this developement, nor, what I am/would be missing by it's absence. I do however, know what we will all (southern growers) be missing if our winter meeting goes away as well. This has been, and, for the forseeable future, will remain, the only assemblence of a southern pumpkin growers group and nucleus for any future southern/southeastern growing associations. As I personally have written here before, I for one want this meeting and everything positive that goes with it, to continue and grow.
Bob Attaway took this under his wing and upon himself to make this meeting happen for all of us each of the last three years. Thanks again Bob! It is my understanding, Kyle Little was asked by Bob to carry on his efforts. Thus, Kyle was in the uneviable position to make something that someone else has started, bigger and better. Kyle got very limited support to go along with his lofty goals (my opinion). This is a recipe for disaster. The rest is history.
It seems to me, if this winter meeting is going to happen we are all going to have to come together and invest maybe a little time and effort, mainly in open communications, to get this organized. It really shouldn't take much, if many can contribute a little. It seems, out of all of us, some one would know of someone who we may be able to ask to present a certain topic...etc, for the meeting.
As a suggestion, maybe those of us reading this thread can speak to those others who won't, and ask them what they feel about the winter meeting. If the majority of us don't make our feelings, concerns, desires, known, we can't feel bad when that same majority is left out. Just some of my feelings, concerns and desires. What are yours? BF
