What do European Growers think about this. Obviously this is a great strategy to get rid of fish-waste and garbade stuff and even make profit out of it, but is it really as good as some say? How to obtain a fertilizer like that in Europe? Will it help if i kill all those white-fish and carps I can catch here at Lake Constance and bury them in my garden (not to be taken to serious) besides attracting all of the cats in the neighbourhood? And what is 20-20-20? Tried to find out and just couln`t ...

Last season I have used seaweed for foliar feeding in the spring. I think that besides organic nutrients (maybe even hormones?) Ca is the most beneficial ingredient.
20-20-20 should be ratio of NPK.

I put about a trailer full of mussel shells last fall in my patches for calcium and every time I eat lobster, shrimp or other seafood I compost it and add it to the patch. I even stuffed seaweed from the beach in England last year into every free part of the car and added that to the patches too...My wife really knew I was crazy when I did that!

This year I have added tiny amounts of fish and seaweed fertilizers to the plants but I probably won't use anymore since I can tell by the leaves that they are very happy with the soil. I would not ever start a year at least without using a bit of the fish/seaweed though!

Miracle Gro 15-30-15 long lasting fertilizer was spread lightly over the entire patch last fall and I hope that will make a difference once the plants are getting huge, but that will be awhile in the main patch.

Seaweed concentrate solution is available at most good garden stores here in Germany. It is called Algan and I think it comes only in 100 ml. sizes. Fish fertilizers are probably banned here because of an unfounded fear of BSE. Fish Mehl is probably also a good fertilizer but it is also no longer sold but might still be obtained at some farmer supply outlets.

Best regards everyone!
Michel

Thanks Michel and Jernej for your input. It`s kind of work top get through all this nutrition, fertilizer topics for a newbie. Almost as hard as genetics (if you can call it so). Don`t really know, if I would use "Fisch-Mehl" after what I have read about it. Surely try to get Algan and some of this 20-20-20 stuff, if available.

Algan is not that good.
I use "OSCORNA Algenkonzentrat-plus" weekly. I also used it by transplating and it seems I´d have no transplanting streß.
OSCORNA comes in 250ml and is to use in 20ml in 10 Liter Water for watering and 50ml in 10 Liter for foliar feeding.
