Both fruits on my 1178.5Kuhn have stem splits. The smaller one on the side vine (5 days ago) and now the really great looking fruit on the main - here the splits (2 inches long) are on the left and on the right side of the stem . This fruit gained about 20 lbs. the last 2 days. Game over for this season! Good luck to you all - Peter.
P.S.: I have still some small fruits on the 707Toftness, 805Kuhn and 1005Mombert, but I think they won`t become very big until the end of the season

Peter, as I said before, I understand exactly how you feel. Do not give up on your small ones, they still have time!

Hang in there Peter.

Needless to say I am sorry for your loss! Loosing the biggest (sound) fruit in the patch at a time twice this year really sucks! Is your 584.2 fruit still growing? You first thought it split but obviously it didn't split all way through the cavity as you later said it is still growing...
Are the splits on the 1178s fatal?

But as Owen said, don't give up yet, we still have 60 days to go. If we get a decent September you might be able to almost max out the potential of the little ones. I always found that most growth is over after 60 days.....

It really seems like 2005 is not a good year for pumpkins in Europe. So many people (Börje, Lars, Sergio, yourself, etc.) have splits this year.
After hearing how much Börje's, Lars's and Sergio's fruits were growing per day (25 to 30 lbs per day) I thought that this is the reason for the many splits but yours only grew 10 lbs per day ("This fruit gained about 20 lbs. the last 2 days." - or do you mean 20 lbs per day for the last two days?). I really am afraid every time I check out my fruits now!

Hi Martin and Owen, my 584.2 is still growing, but the split gets bigger and bigger (I`ll post pics later) but it didn`t split all way through cavity. Martin, my 1178.5 gained over 20 lbs "a day" the last 2 days. The splits on the 1178.5 are not fatal, but I am sure they will become fatal. Tomorrow I`ll try to post some pics of my splits.
I hope to get "100lbs." to Ludwigsburg (maybe 100+ ?)

stem splits don't have to be fatal, many grow out just fine! Good luck. Jimmy
