1=703* Smith, 2= 823* Gadberry, and 1=834* Gadberry, also will have an 1180 Daletas, and one undecided in the #6 spot. I will be crossing a pumpkin into one of the 823* so I would like one that has been selfed like your 883 Adam (1048 Companion X self). Hope one of us green fiends crack the thousand pound barrier with a real greenie! Jack was close last year and Im glad he didnt do it as his "squash" appeared to have some punkin in the ole wood pile! Sent my soil sample off to A-L Labs first one ever in the new place it should be interesting to see what it comes back like.

April, Awesome cross last year, I have a spare 834* for you lets swap! You made a killer cross with the 552 and I would consider filling up my spare slot with that one. Send me a private email with your address and I will send you a bubbly pack.

Case

Choctaw, OK

If i tried a green one, it would be my own 494* Neuville(744* welty x 943.5* Mccallum)...has grown 709* Wentzell, 726* McGrath, and 605.5* neuville. I also would seriously consider the 229* Hathorn...especially to cross the two. Maybe might grow a 494* x self test field fruit by Mr. Joe Ailts...had nice shape and color. That 748* Koch and thier other squash seeds are good ones to try too if someone is willing to take a chance.

Last year I didn't have the room for a true all out attempt for the green jacket, but this year is entirely another story.
Six plants are going in....
895 Hester
552 Sherwood
474 Hester
748 Koch (might have the number wrong)
980 Razo
And the 6th spot is a toss up with the 616 Corkum, 756 Kennedy, 675 Hester, or I will just plant 6 895's and call it good.
The Pumpkinguru
PS I might fudge and put in the 900 Lyons as a pumpkin (but it might go squash)LOL

Good luck with the 703 smith. Never makes anything big. Lots of aborts.

A seriously overlooked squash is the 770 Troy 03(I think that is the correct weight) It is the darkest green I have seen come to a weigh in. It smoked our 647.5 Kolb 03 at Elk Grove that year.Great shape, looked like a barrel. Still the heaviest grown in calif. to be officially weighed I believe.

2/2/2005 2:34:01 AM

Dale Fisher

Applegate, Oregon

I believe the reason the 777 Troy 03 Squash is overlooked would be due to the pollinator being a pumpkin (805 Pukos). I guess we are all waiting for someone else to grow it and see if it will throw true greenies.

2/2/2005 8:18:35 AM

RunnerKid

Spokane, WA

Okay, now I'm confused. My seed packet on the 777 Troy said the male was 805 Pukos. But on AGGC it says it's the 850 Hester? Is it just a typo...? Adam

Adam,

My packet, direct from Bob, also says 805 Pukos. Dale

If you could have seen the 777 Troy in person as I have you would be wondering if any pumpkin crossed into it could even have a chance of removing enough green to bounce it out of the squash catagory.

Some one has to risk it and grow this seed to see if it still throws green. I would do it myself if I had more room
then the 1000Sq ft I have now. Surely someone with an acre or two could risk it.
