I was curious to see how the different green genes were doing this year...
For me,
980 Razo, Nice plant nice shaped young fruit.
748 Koch, Little slow vegetatively, nice shaped young fruit.
895 Hester #1, Main vine bitten off, running a secondary as a main. Nice young fruit, but deformed lobes in the blossoms.
895 #2, It finally happened and explains why some 895 offspring have been throwing pumpkins, this 895 is throwing pumpkins. It was the biggest seed I harvested from the 895 by a noticeable margin, so it was different in that sense as well. Differences include, small leaves, yellow vines and fruit, vines grow beyond rapidly to the point of insanely fast. It is a different animal having no traits the same as any of the 895 plants I have raised.
895 #3, Rolling along. Big robust plant with long stems and nice shaped fruit.
738 Stellpflug, Definately old school as it is slow but green as grass. The whole plant is green. No fruit set yet, but it will be nice to reintroduce some different genes to all the 895 stuff in the patch.

Competition plot:

645* Gould, nice looknig plant - first female pollinating this weekend i think.

585* Wolf (463 wolf x 895* Hester)was put in as a backup to my 1005 mombert, then dug up and replanted after my 865 mettler bit the dust, and the 1005 straightened out its act. catching up to the 645.

out in the field:

229* Hathorn, slow to start because it was a double vine. immediately split into 2 single vines. chopped one, even though i would have loved to grow it out. growing pretty good, and looks to be pollinating early next week.

228* Wolf, quick grower, pollinated first one this morning.

494* Neuville, nice average looking plant so far.

535* Wolf, typical 535 agressiveness so far.

522* Wolf, nice plant but gowing orange like i expected.

463 wolf - grew both of my 585*'s last year, this year going blaze orange like it was supposed to the first time.

857 Platte* is my best so far. Very long fruit and stem.
980 Razo* is close behind. It is my best looking plant.
894 Hebb* '03 is a strong plant. I'm expecting great things.
748.5 Koch* has huge leaves and deep, green, perfectly round fruit.
456 Johnson* is a real mean looking, bushy plant with succulent growth. I think this seed will surprise people.
625.5 Welty* has greener females than the 834 Gadberry*
834 Gadberry* was slow out of the gate but it's smokin now.

Both are throwing true green squash. Pollinated both a couple of days ago, though the 874 did have seeds in the blossom.

895- Big plant with a nice thick green main. Long stemed green round fruit sitting at about softball size and slow moving so far.
980 Razo looks pretty much the same as my 895 but the plant is a little smaller so far.

I have softball sized fruit on the 861 brunst,471 beachy, and 1086 carlson. I have what is supposed to be a 1458 whittier(trying to get this 100% confirfed) that has squash on it about basketball size. All of my squash are doing good except the 767 hester it went double on me , 490 beachy had a blowout, but I think it will grow a decent size fruit, just not as far out as I would have perfered.

I've just started pollinating in the patch the past two days. Everything seems a couple weeks behind schedule after the lousy spring weather. The 980 Razo has had it's problems, but it wants to be a good plant, I can tell. No flowers of any sort open on that one yet. 645 Gould was an abysmal looking seedling and got stuck off in a corner of the patch and has responded by taking off like a rocketand making me wish it got the 980's position. First pollination this morning on the 645 with the 576 Michalec 03* The 576 is the beast of the patch so far and had it's first pollination yesterday with the 645 Gould. Both plants showing beautiful green. 980 looks like it will too eventually but after having cracked the main shortly after transplanting into the patch and another split later because all the vines want to grow for the sky it still has a nice shape.

Well this is my first year growing a squasher, and it's the 494 Neuville. It's been a pain to train the vines because I'm growing it in flag style and my patch is on a slope. I think that's why the main vine likes to tip over all the time. The main is still supported by stakes in several spots to keep it upright, and never even laid down in some spots. It's sorda sitting there a few inches off the ground. Despite its stubbornness, I did pollinate a beautiful green 5 lober on it this morning.

I've been working daily with my 748Koch to keep my main vine down. It's only ay 12' out and I have had to pin the main down every day, every 6".... All it wanted to do was grow straight up. It has now been tamed and is growing smoothly. I'll be setting my first squash this weekend. All in all it's a nice looking plant! It's been a crazy spring in NH.

I'm growing the 521.5* Andrews and the 451.8* Wolf.
The 521.5* is probably my best plant in the whole patch. I will have one that will be ready to pollinate in about a week thats 14' out with 19 secondaries behind it. I hoping to do well with this one.
The 451.8* has gotten very little care as it is in my satellitte patch and it hasnt gotten the care it deserves. It was planted late and the weather wasn't nice to it. Hopefully it will recover enough to produce something.

I've got three of my 695* Landry 04, (771 Stellphlug x 675 Hester) growing. One them has a near 20 day old fruit that is running pretty darn near the benchmark for a 1000 pounder. I hope I don't screw this greenie up.

There is a 771 Stellpflug, 668 Swarts and my 857, 682 and 480 in the patch this year. All seem to be healthy plants and all have nice green sets. The 668 fruit has an extremely long stem. The 771 is being used as the pollinator for all. Things look good so far. Good luck to everyone. Joe

I have a 677.5 Sherwood 04 that's coming along nicely. Nice long stems on the fruit. Having a bit of a problem with some aborts with the high temp's this area has been having, but it's a great plant to work with.

I have a #6* beachy (280* Beachy 04) in....218* andrews x 706 knauss. Its throwing very round, smooth, white and green stemmed pumpkins. Amazing growth rate on it so far. If i had more time, I would have grown my own 494* Neuville.

Wow, I missed a good discussion. Well better late than never: right now I've got a nice one on the 632 Wentzell about 228" on day 30; a good one on the 552 (would win most 'nicest looking fruit' contests 237" day 30; two young light greenies on the 873 LaRue and 1086 Carlson that are moving quickly. Good to see the green this year!
