This is my 1st year growing a green machine, i need to know if i have Sq set? I should ask Jim this, my question is the 2 that i have set on the main both 6 lobes were really green when pollinated, now they are larger, and 6 days old, and are turning lighter green almost half of the starting color 7" stems that have not laid down yet, and still look smooth and not dull or pock marked they were self pollinated, the seed is the 552 Sherwood, the 2 with the 6 lobes are only about a foot apart. I can tell within 4 daysif set on a Pumpkin, but SQ brand new (newbee) i have one on side vine, and about ready on the main again, any ,and all advise appreciated Thanks! Plant is very healthy i just don't know so i'm in limbo here just wait?

I don't know if it is typical of Green Squash or not, but My greenies are real hard to set and keep a set fruit. They seem to like to abort a lot, at least for me.

Roger, aborting on a squash is very common, keep trying on the main vine if possible. Be sure to use as much pollen as possible (3-6 flowers). Eventually one will set.

Thanks Jim, sure is a great plant, I think i got one set on a side vine 5 lobes far out on the plant, the main snaped at 24' because i shaded from sun, and it raised up all the way up to the sun shield like 2' in the air. The sq is the size of a grapefruit now still solid green true self pollination, I have a bunch on the plant, there not ready yet, and one right at the end of main i'll pollinate. Thank you Great plant, and plenty of males. Rog

RogNC, Let a hoe be a hoe bro..... Squash are just like punkins in techniques only cooler....

In Fact..... I have personally observed that the crumby lil plant in the corner (bushy **squash** of course) performes better than the AG's if left more or less alone...

Just made a diary pic post of my first green machine, funny Gads it in the corner patch, were rolling now, i love this i'm hooked~ Sure would like to get my hands on some Gadberry seeds Hint hint, Adam blalock sent me some of his crosses with the Gadberry my favorite was his 793 i think it had half Gadberry in it, i would have to look at the seeds to be sure, But I plan on growing more than one, thats for sure it a challenge i used Jims 552 cause i bought it at auction, and had only one.
