Anyone ever made this cross. It seems to me that the 616 is one of the ONLY seeds with NO 900 Lyons in it at all.

I grew the 645* Gould a few years ago. It was 616* Corkum x 895* Hester. Grew a nice greenie for me, but it was way under chart.

Interesting that it went light. I think it grew a world record in 2000 (990 Hebb) so I know it has good genetics. Light is no good, but maybe that was a fluke. I don't know what it usually does statistically (heavy or light).

I really want to add something non 900 so I may use the 616 as the pollinator for my 848.

mine was about 16 or 18 percent under the chart. as far as i know, there was only one other offspring from the 645*, and it went heavy, so mine could have been a fluke. all i know is that it was the most beautiful looking squash i had seen until the dill rings developed.

i think there were a few other 895 x 616 crosses, not sure how they did

I have made a couple crossed with no 900 Lyons in them. See my 2007 diary.

There are several lines out there without 900 Lyons in them, but you are right, most do.

582 Johnson 03* is also 616 x 895.

I looked into the 616 a bit, but with half of the progeny being pumpkins and many fruit that go below the charts I figured it wouldn't be worth it.

Does it consistently throw green?

How long would it take (5, 10, etc. generations) before a seed would throw green if you to say...cross the 848 with a heavy pumpkin, over and over again?

The 616 Corkum throws about 50% green and 50% orange. The 616 itself is only about 1/4 squash. It will likely take so many generations that there will hardly be any 616 left in the cross to make it worthwhile. Even then, you might get a throw back once in a while.
