I'm curious with all the discussion lately about squash color rules and the genetics involved in coloration. The squash rules allow for blue color, and I'm just wondering if there are any particular genetic lines that have produced exceptionally blue giant squash (I'm not talking about hubbards or bananas or anything like that). I have seen pictures of bluish-green squash but none that are really blue. I found an old discussion in which Rocky Rockwell stated that he wished he had a seed from the 675 Hester squash (don't know what year that seed was) because Quinn Werner grew a blue 899 from it, but the picture I found of the 899 Werner didn't look that blue to me. Am I chasing after something that doesn't really exist, or do any of the squash experts out there know of a true blue giant squash line?

I think what they call "blue" is more of a greenish grey color. At best it is very dull blue!

I have gotten a blue color from the stellpflug line(most are grey in my experience), from the 502.5ciliberto line(also green ones), and from the 672Dill94*(mostly green and white ones).

It's really hard to tell from pictures sometimes, and I must admit I have a little color deficiency in my eyesight so seeing subtle differences in color is difficult for me sometimes. The 881 Beauchemin sure is a pretty squash though! I'm basically looking for the bluest I can find and trying to determine if it's a repeatable trait or not. Everything I've read about color so far tells me it's a crap shoot at best.
