Ive heard of a couple real nice ones in Ontario, growing on the 1246* Vincent 11, and one on a relatively unknown seed. Any other big greenies out there?

I have a squash but I do not consider it big with just over 100" in CC.....

thats the problem with squash, not easy to detect a grey-green monster in the green canopy of the neighbors patch lol
an est 390lbser 40 DAP on my own seed will perhaps beat my pb, but not more.

I was thinking anything that looks like it will be 1200 lbs plus. This would mean 600 lbs at 40 days or so.

I only have one squash this year and its tracking behind my 1246 same age last year, although it estimated a lot bigger than it ended up due to the odd shape.

Im sure there are squash out there lurking in the bushes. I'm just trying to get some disucssion going.

On Aug. 2nd this fruit (1217.5) had a circumferance of 98" and was around 200 lbs...then it woke up. Hartbreaker at the end with a soft spot but that was the growers fault;) Pleanty of time still for a big squash...chances are slim from it coming from my patch though.

Just measured my squash yesterday.
400 lbs nice healthy plant, now it comes.
My dad tried to catch a mole and put one of the pins of the fork into the squash............
I hope it doesn't start rotting

I had 425 on Day 34 on my 1130 Jutras at 26 lbs per day. Then it dropped to 6 lbs per day, Found stump rotted today. So that would have been at 600 at D40. My 800 Neily was @ 328 at D33 and 16 lbs per day.

Well the secrets will all be out on Saturday during our MAGPG patch tour anyways so.... I have a pretty huge one going on the 1486* Jarvis. I haven't measured it since before my vacation last week, kinda letting the suspense build till we tape it during the tour.

Yesterday, day 36 I was eyeballing this squash at well over 600 lbs. I hate to overplay it since I truely haven't measured it at all but I look at the thing and think, damn, that is just about the size of Shane Miller's 760 last year when it was on the scale. Whatever it is, it was waaaayy over 500 on day 36. It will be day 40 the day of the patch tour... ohhh the tension builds.

And I managed the killer cross too-- 1486* Jarvis x 1246* Vincent. -Jim

Well, got burned on the circ as it is a tall wheel but the numbers came out... Ok I suppose. 602 lbs on day 40. If that is the rough half weight that is still pretty good but not the numbers I was dreaming of. Oh well.

found rot on the main vine on the 1106 horde this morning,, 2 ft from stump, about 4 feet long area. tips and fruit all had stopped, turning yellow,, down to 1 sq plant left

growing squash for the first time and wondering how to encourage the fruit to green up. The fruit is covered at all times by a sheet and or hoop tarp. Do need to expose the fruit to the sun? The fruit is green I would just like it a little darker. I am growing the 1486.6 Jarvis 713 on day 54

glass, i give fruit an hr of sun,, around 9 to 10 am,, then cover agin,, dont know if it helps,, temps are a bit cooler ,, and not as harsh,, just my thoughts

Joel says to uncover all the time through the day. Especially now that we are getting into late august. I also wonder if sheet colour has an effect. I have always used a dark sheet on my squash. This year I used a white sheet and my squash is much darker. I also know some growers that didn't cover their squash at all this year. They started out light coloured and are finishing up much darker. Light deffinatly has an impact on colour. Just not sure yet where the balance is between covering the fruit and exposing to light.

I always leave just a white sheet on my pumpkins and squash. My biggest squash was more of a white and light color green a week ago. With in just the past few days, she is starting to get darker green. The way she has changed so quicky, I got to say she will be dark green in the next week. So I wouldn't worry now being you have another month of growth. Plus with a sheet on it, the sun doesn't get to it and the shell stays soft to keep getting bigger easier. Just my two cents worth here

Oh the poor squash, I always forget that this board is even here. Why can't they get the attention they deserve? My squash has been uncovered and is much darker than it was a couple weeks ago. Friday will be day 60 and I'm no longer worried about the amount of white in it. Some combination of both sun and age I would guess. The problem now is some splitting occuring on the blossom end.
