By the looks of the post and emails, it looks like we need to go over the structure of the club before we concern ourselves with the potential for any money getting involved. Probably a wise choice.

One way is the board of directors with the whole president, secretary, treasurer and such.

The other is via committee.

Lets go over this instead and decide on who is doing what so to speak. I have Eddy interested in being our treasurer. I also have a couple people interested in potentially running an auction. People interested in looking for sponsership, so it looks like we have people ready to step up. I don't mind leading the charge, or helping someone else lead the charge, but we need to decide how we want the charge to be led.

If you have ideas or concerns, but would like them to be confidential, email me and I will post them 'blind' here on BP.com.

From the members who have applied we can take a vote on who should lead the pack. Anyone can be nominated who is within the list. So first lets post the list.

I as a member of the club will NOMINATE BRETT COOPER HESTER for president of the IGSG. Lets get thiZ club started

i believe that the stucture ,, imho.. should be commitee,, the first yr at this ,, and only one gpc member,, be involved in the structure as to work with the gpc,, fer awards and prize monies,, eddy, wiz, jim,, and the other gpc members nothing personnelly intended ,, just my thinking,, we're now seperate entidies, and i hope i havent affended to many folks,, i'm feel,, there are still to many unanswered questions out there ,, the green jacket awards ,, the gpc squash prize structure ,, and our own group.. now this is my honest thoughts, curt

let me try to clarify this a bit ,,.. commitee, members from,, europe, canada ,, 1 gpc member ,, for communication within that organization, dont forget the folks down under as thier season, is just getting underway,, a 7 person commitee,, to go over all, the input,, thats still unaswered, that way,, there a vote on issue' to be presented to the igsg, we stiil need to speak to the current Green Jacket awards group,, as they are the prevailing folks at this time,. honestly.. i'm not rying to make this complicated,, just want clarity. i truly hope you all as members understand this ,,

I agree that some sort of structure is needed whether it be officers or a committee. We will need a list of members to nominate either.

In 2007 a small group of us in Europe started the EGVGA. This group of about 4 or 5 spent many an evening in the BP chatroom discussing the way to go. Once we had it figured out, we presented it to whoever we thought were interested. At the time we had 0 potential members. Within two years we had 200 members in almost 20 countries.

Everybody will have an opinion, but most people will not want to take a leading position, but will be willing to agree to a well thought out plan.

My suggestion would be to form a group of about 5 people (more will make formation very difficult) with varied (leadership, communication, etc) qualities and one or two with a good set of think tank brains and make a proposal. Potential members can then comment on it and changes can be made to the proposal if necessary.

After a year the forming group becomes re-electable. I was the first president of the EGVGA but after a year I stepped down because I'm into starting up projects, not running them. Those can be two very different qualities.

I suggest that we don't elect/nominate based on popularity or past success growing squash....especially past success. This will top load the club (i.e., the GPC) with growers from a narrow geographic region. The Southern US has many growers that know their way around a squash but garner little attention because we can't throw up big numbers due to the fact that it's more of a struggle to grow big in the South.

I am content with sitting back and being a member. That being said I am always willing to help. I realize that I am quite a bit younger than most of the guys on here, but I do have leadership experience. I was the director recruitment for our Inter-Fraternity Counsel (handled recruitment for 14 fraternities on campus), I am the Vice President of my Fraternity (handle PR and recruitment), and I am the current manager of my universities’ bio-diesel program. I don’t want a major position but if you are looking for a secretary I would be happy to volunteer.

I'm with 1320. Down here in Texas there aren't very many squash or pumpkin growers breaking records but we have piles of expertise and knowledge. Maybe go with Brads idea and we have a committee of folks who kinda get the ball rolling. After some time some direction can be taken with leadership.
