i have been following the chatter here on the green squash message board for a while now. partly because i have toyed with the idea of growing green glory for a while now.(still on the fence-lol)and partly because i think that next to a giant pumpkin? a giant greenie is a awsome sight.

my thoughts are this ---

the more you delute a product the less flavor it has. by that i mean has anyone here thats pushing a new green squash group tried to discuss being part of the gpc family ? and building that part of the hobby under the gpc banner?

to me that would be the way to go.to work with the gpc .to build interest and awards development, etc, from within the existing organization rather than from without.

just a though. i do know if i wanted to promote green id try and work something out through eddy z and his gpc fellow executives.
build green from within an existing gpc organization.even appoint someone to oversee the green interests and development?something to consider?

Pap, totally agree. My goal from the start is not to be seperate from the GPC, but rather a part of the GPC. An organization that is specifically designed to focus on one vegetable class, and for me, squash should be second only to the giant pumpkins.
I think of it like this... The PGVG, SNGPG, PNWGPG, and many more are all individual clubs that fly under the GPC banner. However, all the PGVG events have been GPC sanctioned, but essentially, the PGVG is still a part of the GPC. The IGSG we are creating will just be another club like the PGVG. Perhaps I am offbase in my thinking, wouldn't be the first time, but that has been my goal.

Thoughts everyone???

Most European squash are not weighed at GPC sites. Is that an issue? Most of the European squash come from Belgium, Holland and Germany, and all but one Belgian weigh-off, the Dutch weigh-off and several German weigh-offs are not GPC.

Brad, Personally I do not see this as being a problem. We will (the IGSG members) come up with a simple set of standards to make sure an entry is 'official' no matter where it is weighed in. This is a topic for later discussion, but I believe our goal should be to get as many squash on a scale as possible. Get as many people recognized as possible. To include instead of exclude.

exactly Wizz.I dont think GPC wants more to do.They didnt respond when we tried to merge the GWG into the group. It's running parallel to GPC.

SORRY I COULD NOT MAKE THE MEETING SAT NIGHT, HAD TO WORK.
WILL HELP IF I CAN.

CERTAINLY CAN UNDERSTAND WANTING ALL GREEN SQUASH TO BE COUNTED WHETHER THEY ARE WEIGHED AT A GPC OR INDEPENDENT SITE.

WHATS THE GOOD OF HAVING A CLUB IF YOU START OUT BY EXCLUDING GROWERS BECAUSE OF WHERE THEY WEIGH OFF?
YOU WOULD HOWEVER NEED CERTIFIED ASSURANCES (RULES) FOR THESE NON GPC SITES TO PROMOTE A FAIR CONFLICT PROOF COMPETITION.

BASICLY YOU WOULD HAVE GROWERS IN YOUR CLUB THAT WILL QUITE POSSIBLY WEIGH-OFF IN BOTH GPC & INDEPENDENT SITES AS WELL.
