I'm growing the 800 Neily and my buddy told me the genetics are too old to be competitive. He compares it to growing an 845 Bobier but I think it's more like growing a 1161 Rodonis. I guess my question is can I beat his 996 with the 800 if both grow to their full potential?

All depends on many things and what you end up with when it hits the scales. No the seed isn't to old. Never say never....

It produced the 1324 Kline dmg last year as I remember. How many are larger damaged or not. Not even close to the same as planting the 845 the way I see it.

Your buddy sounds like a smart guy and a good friend. He's right. Why waste all that time doing all that hard work to grow yesterday's seed? He probably offered you a seedling from one of last year's top fruit, grown from a cross that has a legitimate shot to grow a world record. Didn't he?

I think we're learning that weather is at least equal if not greater than good genetics. The 800 Neily has proved that it can grow big and more importantly...green.

Vineman...I'll take that seedling if you'll ship it to me...of course I'll pay for the postage.

I feel like my buddy and good friend just wanted me to grow his pollinator for him. I think the 800 Neily is a high risk seed but with big potential and I'm willing to take that chance. No guts, No glory!

I think you should ditch a pumpkin and plant both :)

Inmy opinion the 800 has more upside than anything out there. Plant it and win.

If I had the seed, I'd grow it

I'm growing a selfed Neily, so far it is one of the best plants in the patch.
