We were sitting around at a penny antie poker party the other day and the topic of "World Record" Squash came up. I was wondering what you all thought of the current squash record (GPC Rules) V.S the 990 Hebb Greenie World Record? Is there some "I'm Mad as Hell and ain't gonna take it no more" statement we should be making?

Gerry I think most of us recognize the 990 as the current squash record...I think some of the decisions made are biased due to the place a person would take in the weigh off, and prize money they would collect. Making it that much easier to throw them in to another category. The 1st year I grew I grew a pretty nice pumpkin, until I got it to the weigh off. Some one told me nice squash...

I have a copy of a letter sent by Guinness to Ray Davey who is organiser of the U.K. Giant Vegatable Championships.
It is dated 8th September 2003 they have the WR as the 962 Hoult 1997.
Looks like no one claimed it since.

Gerry I'm with you, but then again this debate has raged on for some time and will continue as long as itis the way it is. I'd say 990, no offense to Jerry's awesome pumpkin with some green in it. A third category is needed as long as there is a color rule....imho. Dale

If you allow just a 100% or real close squash to be a squash in a squash catagory why do you need a third catagory?...its pretty obvious to people who have seen a green squash what catagory it belongs in...squmpkins are pumpkins.....

I agree Glenn......go look at a field pumpkin with a touch of green ...most have....still a pumpkin.....never seen a sign yet selling them as SQUASH LOL......maybe the GREEN JACKET will help change it around

Gerry,
I think if the squash was grown from a squash seed (that produces green ones) or a seed that consistantly produces 100% green squash (or very close) then it should count as a squash.

However, if someone grows a "squampkn" say from a 723, which they occasionaly do, then no. It shouldn't count. Maybe there should be a whole seperate category like "squampkin" or "other" for the weigh offs so this sort of thing doesn't make it unfair for those that are truly searching for the ultmate greenie.
