I know the pumpkin color rule is it has to be 75% orange-cream. But is it the same for a squash, like it has to be 75% gren-grey-blue to be a squash. Or is it that the squash category assumes the other 75% of the pumpkin category? So for example if someone grew a fruit that was 26% non-pumpkin then it would be a squash? If so I think someone should consider a change.

i think the way it is written, the assumption is that anything that is 26% non pumpkin is then considered a squash, but you bring up an interesting viewpoint, im curious to hear what others think about this.

Who makes this rule?? The GPC? I havent heard anyone support this rule, so maybe some pressure to the gpc is in order?

I would definitely prefer three categories:
1. Pumpkin = 100% red, orange, yellow or cream-white
2. Squash = 100% green to grey
3. Name? = all other colors and mixtures of the colores named obove.

I like Martin's idea, but maybe 75% instead of 100%, becausethings like cantelouping can cause a discoloration in some fruit.

Wayne Kennedy posted this...........Looking for help and input on this subject........Nic Welty and myself are trying to start a Green Jacket for Squash just like the one awarded at the Niagara Seminar..whos for.. whos against....who can help fund.....who has some ideas.....would be for the heaviest true green Squash grown each year.

Try to keep it simple ,,,green is green,,if you start into 10% cream , yellow ,orange you'll be right back where the other weighoffs are,,appoint 5 or 7 or 3 of you diehard greenies so if there is discrepencies you take a couple of pics , "different angles" at where you weigh it and mail the pics to them if need be ,,
Make it that the Squash that recieves the Green Jacket has to have Pictures available for submission to these 3,5,7, folks.
