would it be crazy to cross the 1385 daletas with a 552 sherwood or a 895 hester???? what would the benifits be,or not be????

You'd probably lose the dominant green gene in the 552 or 895, but using the 552 or 895 to pollinate the 1385 would be interesting, but you'd still have to cross some squash genes into it for a few more years to get a seed that will produce mostly squash.

thanks tom!! ill stick with using the 1385 as pollinator of pumpkin and it will be pollinated with orange ???? suggestions!

What does anyone think of a 895 Hester x 1367 Rose cross? Any thoughts on whether it might stay green?

50% of the resulting offspring will be pumpkins, and the other 50% will be squash. There is a very small outside possibility that the 1367 could actually throw true green, where in that case you would get the pure green every time.

I'm no geneticist, but I would've said 25% chance of green, 25% orange, and 50% chance of mixture of the traits...but since 1367 has 'some' darky tendency, maybe a higher % chance of green? It would of course be ideal to get the good green color from the 895 and 'the heavy' of the 1367. :)

Frank, most 895's go heavy. Ours was 9.5% over the charts. Good luck with your crosses.
