Well, I grow 2 hester's squashes (one 895.5) and the both plants have the same problem : the squashes stems developp a failure in the lengh of the stem. There is no hole in the squash (at this time)and the stem is very long. Is it a recurrent problem?. Any advice? Should I put something in the failure?
Thanks.

The Belgian Girl,

Sophie

Hi Sophie, cracks in the length of the stem shouldnt hurt the fruit and will heal, its when they split into the fruit thats the problem. The cracking you describe is a re-occurring problem in the 895.5 ours also had a pretty big crack in its stem last season, but the fruit didnt seem to mind. I believe the problem develops when adjusting the very long stemmed fruits position and it "stresses the stem.
Good luck this year, I'm not sure how your doing as I don't read French very well!

Out of the race !
My 895.5 aborted yesterday. She has a very tiny little small crack at the stem...When I opened her, there was several very big cracks inside...
I carved her to make a lantern...Halloween on 17 of august...Something's going wrong !
Good luck to you all !
