Why is it that growing pumpkins is a far more popular sport / hobby out in eastern Canada than in western Canada? I mean, with our climate out here, I'd have thought that you'd see a lot more giant fruit coming out of BC. With the exception of a handful of west coast growers, pumpkin growing is pretty small out here. I can remember growing up as a kid in Ontario and it seemed like there was a weigh off at every little small town fair every fall.

Growing AGP's has really taken off in my area. A local weigh-off party on Oct 15th had over 200 hundred people out to see the big pumpkins of Barclay Ontario. The winner was a first year grower with around 550 pounds. Next year I hope they grow it bigger and better. I believe there are lots of little competitions all over the province just like this one. Home of the World Record Pumpkin, Ontario's 12.5 million people are discovering the anti-compaction soil enhanced with self aerated compost laden, Manure injected, triple irrigated, frost proofed, PH nutrefied, calcified, magnesium laced, iron fortified, cec increased, molasses sweetened, bacteria innoculated, corn meal boosted, turfaced, hormone stimulated, greensand dressed, vermiculite stuffed, Diaclam baked, Vulcanized, compost tead, calcined cassius clayed, kitty littered, peat bogged, nitrogen affixed, potassium pumped, phosphorus juiced and perculated perlite to produce a pumpkin patch plantation of pure perceived misplaced pleasurement.

What am I hearing here? Is someone implying that those on the Canadian East Coast just fell off a pumpkin wagon? ;>)

West side all the way!
Actually, there are many growers here in Alberta. It's just that our season tends to be a little short, so for us, anything over 500 pounds is a biggie!
