More of a question or survey for those of us in the British Columbia and Washington State region where the weather has been unseasonably cold and damp. Here in Southern BC, we have set all sorts of records for low temps, lack of sunshine and lots of rain.

Question is, have you noticed that you are behind in growth or are you on schedule as planned? We had such great weather in April and early May, that I took my cloches off earlier than I should have and I now find that I am about 2 weeks behind what would be optimal pollination time.

I know Lawman is experiencing the same and wonder about some other growers in the area.

Glenn, you're absolutely correct about the weather. It's been a real mixed bag here. I do know that you've had much more rain than we've had here in the Alberni Valley. Much of the wind and heavy rains have missed us.
My plants are ahead of last year's pace, the exception being the 842 Eaton. The main vines are at around 20 ft. I have pollinated pumpkins on all plants and continue to do so. The vines continue to grow +/- 8" per day and have had to terminate a number of side vines already. All we need is for some sunshine and heat.

Thanks Jake. Hopefully the weather will pick it up soon. Oh well, if not, we know we will have good weather in September to pack on that extra couple hundred pounds before weigh-off.

I'm actually ahead of last year, too, but that might have something to do with the horrendous seed I used last year. I have noticed that the plant responds much better - looks and grows more when we do get at least two or three nice days in a row. I think that's happened once so far this year!

I haven't pollinated yet, and it may be another week before I start...

Looks like the forecast is calling for summer to finally arrive this week. Looking forward to wearing shorts for the first time this year...
