I was just wonder if anybody else in my neck of the woods was getting football shaped pumpkins. All 5 of my plants have football shaped pollinated female flowers set. I usually get one or two but I seem to have 5 out of 5 this year. Not that I'm complaining, I've always had good luck with pumpkins ot that shape for size and for heavy to the chart. Just curious.

My only pumpkin so far this year is pretty footballish. I'll probably take some pictures later today since the last one I took was right after pollination a few days ago.

I have several like this as well. I am assuming it is just the choice of genetics!

My pumpkin is on a 584.2 Frei 2003 (1092 Daigle '02 x 802 Dill '02).

Any similarities with your plants?

A photo should be appearing in my diary soon. I've posted it and I'm just waiting for it to be approved.

My 1446 Eaton is throwing football shaped pumpkins as well. I don't have one pollinated on my 926 Hunt as of yet, but if the small female flowers showing up are any indication, they will be shaped the same. This is the first time I've ever had them shaped like this. I hope it's a good sign.

I have very long football shaped pumpkins on the 1446 with long stems. All of my other pumpkin plants are growing nice football shaped fruit as well including the 926 Phil. My 3 greenies ( 895 Hester and 2 980 Razo) are all round with long stems.

I was going to start taking pictures of my growing pumpkin beside a regulation size CFL ball for scale. But, the fruit seems to have really rounded out. It's not so "footballish" anymore. On the other hand, the flower that I may get to pollinate tomorrow on a different plant has a pretty long looking fruit underneath. So, maybe it is the weather. I don't think the two plants share much genetically.

Ok, its catching... I've got one too, on my 781.5...
The plant is healthy around 550sq.ft. but the fruit has some deep ribs and what could be a shallow dill ring around the shoulder.

I believe Drew maybe correct. Lack of adequate soil moisture and or the high heat levels may be the culprit.
